Legal Assistant Trainee 1

o Prepare, draft, file and serve legal documents using correct legal format. o Keep records calendar in order to meet court-specified deadlines for document filing. o Maintain and update case files and entering data, including updating and performing searches in NYMatters. o Proofread documents for correct legal terminology, context, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and question issues of law which appear unclear. o Maintain contact with AAG's and court personnel to set up court dates, serve papers in a legally sufficient and timely manner, and keep abreast of changes in filing in format requirements. o Assist with e-filing documents in NYSCEF and monitoring cases in NYSCEF. o Assemble legal documents, including exhibits, affidavits and legal memos. o Maintain and/or oversee tracking systems, calendars and reporting systems. o Oversee the process of opening, closing and archiving files and cases. o Answer routine questions from the public. o Prepare reports as requested. o Schedule meetings, appointments and depositions, including videoconferencing. o Provide administrative assistance to AAGs as requested. o Other duties as requested by the Assistant Attorney General In Charge of the regional office.

Salary Range:
From $44957 to $64693 Annually
Minimum Qualification
Permanent appointment:
Reachable on the Legal Assistant Trainee 1 eligible list OR eligible to transfer. Provisional appointment:
an associate's degree (or higher) in a paralegal/legal assistant program OR a certificate in a paralegal/legal assistant program where either the degree or certificate was granted from a regionally accredited college or university, or college or university accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) or one approved by the American Bar Association (ABA). Substitution:
Graduation from an accredited (ABA approved) law school with a degree required by New York State Bar admittance will be accepted as meeting the educational requirements for either examination. Non-qualifying degrees:
Non-qualifying degrees include but are not limited to degrees in Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, Liberal Arts, Political Science, Business Administration and Business Management. Important:
Non-degree certificates of completion or diplomas awarded by a training institution or company not regionally accredited or accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) or approved by the American Bar Association (ABA) are not qualifying.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
